Morrison Seger-Backed LYX Hydration Names CPG Veterans to Lead Next Phase of Growth

An incubation play, a product pivot, and a powerhouse New York branding agency carried LYX from a Fort Worth farmers market to an Ad Age-recognized campaign and the #1 ranking on Amazon.

When Morrison Seger Venture Capital Partners heard the pitch from LYX, it was not even called LYX. The business was called the Pet Water Project, and it sold cans of its canine hydration drink from a cooler at a Fort Worth farmers market. The dogs loved it. The product had heart. The category had potential. But that was about it. That is where the Morrison Seger stepped in. Most investors were not paying attention. Rogers Healy was. Today, that early-stage investment, rebranded as LYX Hydration, holds the #1 spot on Amazon for canine hydration

FIRST CAPITAL. THEN A PIVOT. THEN THE BRAND.

The Pet Water Project was built on genuine insight: dogs, especially working, active, and senior dogs, face hydration challenges that a standard water bowl simply does not solve. Early market feedback confirmed that dogs responded to the product immediately. However, canned liquid was expensive to produce and ship, making it unsuitable for direct-to-consumer and not ideal for retail sales.

Morrison Seger saw past the format to the vision. Led by founder and CEO Rogers Healy, one of Dallas's most active CPG investors, the firm came on as LYX's first investor with a directive: pivot from liquid cans to a powdered stick-pack format. The move slashed production costs and opened the door to a direct-to-consumer strategy.

But capital and format alone do not build a category. The next move was the brand itself, and for that, Six+One, the New York-based creative powerhouse behind more than $6.4 billion in CPG brand acquisitions, was brought on as a partner.

THE AGENCY THAT BUILDS BRANDS ACQUIRERS WANT TO BUY

Six+One is not a typical branding shop. The NYC agency, whose portfolio spans Hippeas (now in 50,000+ stores with a $50 million institutional raise), BODYARMOR (the Mike Repole-backed beverage brand), Unbuzzd, Spectrum, and The Bronx Zoo, has built a reputation for what they call "Disruption For Good": category-breaking identity work that creates the kind of brand equity that attracts major acquirers. The firm claims over $6.4 billion in brand exits and acquisitions tied to its client work across CPG, beverages, and consumer goods.

Six+One was the key to rebranding Pet Water Project as LYX: a name, visual identity, and brand architecture built from the ground up for retail shelf presence, DTC conversion, and the long game of category leadership. The stick-pack format. The clean ingredient story. The name that suggests both electrolyte science and the vitality of a dog that just got exactly what it needed. All of it was part of Morrison Seger's incubation.

The result is what happens when capital, a network, the right product format, and world-class brand execution all land at exactly the right moment in a category that is just beginning to break.

A $480M CATEGORY NOBODY OWNS

The timing of LYX's growth could not be more pointed. The human electrolyte market has crossed $35 billion globally, built by brands that rewrote what hydration products could be. Pet supplements have followed an almost identical trajectory, reaching $2.76 billion in 2025 and growing at nearly 7% annually. And yet no major pet company has successfully launched a dog-specific hydration product.

Purina sells a hydration supplement for cats. Mars, Hill's, and Royal Canin have not entered the dog hydration space. That gap represents what analysts estimate could be a $135 million to $480 million subcategory by 2030, if pet hydration follows the adoption curve of hip-and-joint supplements, a category that produced a $610 million exit at 8.4x revenue. "Dog electrolytes" hit 34,000 monthly searches in March 2026, up 86% year-over-year, with search volume hockey-sticking after years of flat growth. Consumer intent is outpacing product availability, and LYX is positioned to own the answer.

#1 ON AMAZON, RIGHT ON TIME FOR NATIONAL PET HYDRATION AWARENESS MONTH

LYX enters National Pet Hydration Awareness Month (July) holding the #1 spot on Amazon in canine hydration.

That position did not happen by accident. Working with Six+One, LYX built an activation at AKC Celebrates USA 250, a three-day festival of canine sports in Philadelphia, around a simple premise: target the dog, not the owner. All creative ran at dog height, with sniff stations, staffed hydration checkpoints, and play areas built entirely around the dogs themselves. An on-site hydration test found that 80% of participating dogs showed signs of dehydration, field data that became the foundation of the brand's message.

The campaign did not go unnoticed. Ad Age selected it as one of the top 13 advertising campaigns of the week, placing LYX, by far the smallest brand in the group, alongside Heinz, Heineken, Walmart, Duolingo, and American Eagle.

LYX is using the awareness month to help dog owners recognize the signs of dehydration most have never been taught to look for.

INVEST. PIVOT. LAUNCH. TRACTION. THEN, SEASONED OPERATORS

Reaching number one on Amazon was the signal, not the destination. It told Morrison Seger that LYX had achieved product market fit. The next move was finding leaders who have done this before: built early-stage brands, navigated the ups and downs and scaled to exit.

That search led to Skeet Freeman and Joey Bilotti.

Skeet and Joey are not strangers to each other, and they are not strangers to this moment. Together, they built Ultima Replenisher from a formula Skeet refined in his Kentucky kitchen into a category-leading electrolyte brand sold through Amazon, Whole Foods, and specialty retailers nationwide. They guided the brand through its acquisition by WM Partners.

During their time together at Ultima, Joey helped grow the Amazon storefront from $20,000 to $30 million and supported the team through the brand's acquisition.

They have seen the highs, navigated the lows, and know how to build toward an exit.

QUOTES

"This is how we build at Morrison Seger. We find great products and then organically supercharge them with capital, connections or the right partners, like Six+One, to execute at the highest level. It's exciting to see our work paying off, especially heading into National Pet Hydration Awareness Month. Our approach is working." — Rogers Healy, Founder + CEO, Morrison Seger Venture Capital Partners

"I've been fostering dogs for two decades, and have four rescues of my own at home. Dogs are my whole life. Couple that with my experience operating CPG brands, my most recent being an electrolyte company, and the fit seems too perfect." — Skeet Freeman, President of LYX

"When we first saw LYX, we saw a brand that needed to be built from the ground up and a category that needed real proof, not just a tagline. Targeting the dog instead of the owner gave us that proof. Watching that work carry LYX to the #1 spot on Amazon right as the awareness month begins is exactly the outcome we build for." — Six+One

About LYX

LYX Hydration is a canine hydration brand built from a simple insight: dogs, especially working, active, and senior dogs, do not always get enough water from a bowl alone. What began as a canned hydration mix sold at farmers markets under the name Pet Water Project has grown, with early backing from Rogers Healy and Morrison Seger Venture Capital Partners and brand identity work from Six+One, into LYX: a stick-pack hydration supplement now ranked #1 on Amazon in canine hydration. The brand is led by President Skeet Freeman, who joined LYX after building and scaling the human electrolyte hydration brand Ultima Replenisher.
